The Maryland GAPNA Chapter has three open board member positions for the 2015-2016 year. I am happy to announce that we have interest in all three positions. Below please find a short bio on each of the candidates and their position of interest. Comments are invited through the end of June (tmiller46@verizon.net). The ballot is attached, please complete by 7/15/2015.

Carol Knud-Hansen: President Elect
Carol Knud-Hansen earned her Master's in Nursing from the University of Maryland in 1985. Her career as an adult nurse practitioner has spanned multiple care settings including public health, women's health, internal medicine and primary care. Currently she is the Director of Clinical Operations for HouseCalls, OptumHealth. She is an adjunct faculty member of University of Maryland School of Nursing. Her sense of community is demonstrated by her membership on the Board of the Talbot County Humane Society. Carol is an avid reader and enjoys boating, cooking and time with her family and friends.
Jennifer Mays: Treasurer
Jennifer is a Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for 12 years. Born and raised in Maryland, she received both her Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science in Nursing at University of Maryland. Joining Optum CarePlus in 2007, she has had the opportunity for personal growth and development within the Gerontology population. Jennifer's prior experience includes occupational healthcare as well as retail medicine. She also worked for many years as a registered nurse at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore City, in both the orthopedic specialty unit and the emergency department. During her clinical rotations, she gained experience in orthopedics, primary care, pediatrics, and emergency medicine. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys boating, the outdoors, skiing, traveling and spending time with her family. She is a proud mother of 4 children who keep her active and always learning!
Allison Carew: Secretary
Allison Carew, MS, CRNP is a board certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore in 2013. Allison began her career as a Registered Nurse at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. After becoming a Nurse Practitioner, she worked for Optum/UnitedHealth Care, managing chronic medical conditions in the elderly in nursing homes throughout Maryland. She is currently practicing at Copper Ridge in Sykesville, providing care for older adults with memory impairment. In addition to GAPNA, Allison is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, Sigma Theta Tau International, and is Co-Chair of the Public Relations Committee of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland. Her professional interests include end-of-life counseling/advance care planning and optimizing function and quality of life in older adults.
